Home Decor Trends On Their Way Out

Decorating trends come and go. To keep your home feeling up-to-date and sophisticated, its necessary to sometimes let trends go -- just like your favorite old shoes. They might still feel good, but they just don't look that great anymore.

Here are some popular trends that are either on their way out or should be used in moderation:

Industrial

Too much industrial is just too much. A lot of exposed brick, piping, metal, and Edison lights will make your house look like a warehouse, not a home. If you want to incorporate the industrial trend into your home, keep it simple. Add a single accent or fixture.

Reclaimed

When done in moderation, reclaimed wood looks great. Just use it in one nice focal piece. Less is more.

Open Shelving

Open shelving in the kitchen is a trend that works well in moderation. Too many open shelves can make your space look cluttered and disorganized. Stick to one or two shelves and display items that are easy to stack -- like dishes.

Chevron

The chevron pattern has been showing up for years. If you incorporate the pattern in a modern way, keep it simple, like in rugs or pillows.
